Coldout signals explained

Welcome! Today we're exploring Coldout Signals—a powerful feature that monitors your prospects and customers for important changes and triggers, automatically alerting you when key events happen. This lets you reach out at exactly the right moment with perfect timing. Let's dive into how Signals work and how to set them up.

What are Coldout signals?

Signals are real-time monitors that track specific events related to people and companies in your database. Instead of manually checking LinkedIn for job changes or searching for company news, Coldout automatically watches for these events and notifies you the moment they happen.

This is game-changing for sales timing. Reaching out when someone just changed jobs, got promoted, or when their company just raised funding dramatically increases your response rates and relevance.

Available signal types

Coldout offers several types of signals you can monitor:

Person-Level Signals:

Monitor person job changes: Get alerted when someone in your database changes companies. This is perfect for re-engaging contacts who move to new organizations that might need your product.

Monitor person promotions: Know immediately when a contact gets promoted. Promotions often trigger budget reviews and new tool evaluations, making it an ideal outreach moment.

Company-Level Signals:

Monitor company job postings: Track when companies post new job listings. Hiring signals indicate growth and often correlate with increased budgets and new tool needs.

Monitor company news: Get notified when companies appear in the news—funding announcements, product launches, expansions, acquisitions, or leadership changes.

Monitor company fundraising: Be alerted the moment a company raises a funding round. Newly funded companies have budget and often need to scale their operations quickly.

Setting up signals

Let's walk through how to activate signals for your prospects.

Step 1: Prepare your table

Start with a Coldout table containing the people or companies you want to monitor. This could be:

- Your existing customers for account expansion opportunities

- Active prospects in your pipeline

- Target accounts you're researching

- Past prospects who weren't ready but might be now

Make sure you have key identifiers like LinkedIn URLs for people, company names, or company domains.

Step 2: Add signal monitoring

In your Coldout table, look for the "Monitor" option in your enrichments. You'll see the list of available signal types.

Select which signals are relevant for your use case. You can activate multiple signals on the same table.

Step 3: Configure person signals

For Job Changes: Select "Monitor person job changes" and map it to your LinkedIn URL column or person identifier. Coldout will continuously monitor these profiles and alert you when someone changes companies.

Use case: A former champion at Company A moves to Company B. You get notified immediately and can reach out: "Congrats on the new role at Company B! I remember how much success we had together at Company A. Would love to explore how we can help you achieve similar results in your new position."

For Promotions: Select "Monitor person promotions" and map to your person identifiers. Coldout alerts you when contacts get promoted to new roles.

Use case: Your contact just became VP of Sales. Perfect timing to reach out: "Congratulations on the promotion to VP of Sales! As you're likely evaluating your tech stack and strategy for this new role, I'd love to show you how we're helping other sales leaders in similar positions..."

Step 4: Configure company signals

For Job Postings: Select "Monitor company job postings" and map to your company name or domain column. Specify which types of roles you want to monitor—sales, marketing, engineering, or all.

Use case: Company posts 5 new sales roles. This signals they're scaling their sales team, meaning they likely need sales enablement tools, CRM solutions, or other sales tech. Reach out: "I noticed you're growing your sales team significantly. We help companies like yours onboard and enable new reps faster..."

For Company News: Select "Monitor company news" and map to your company identifiers. Coldout scans news sources and alerts you to major announcements.

Use case: Company announces new product line. You can reach out: "Congratulations on launching [new product]! As you scale this new offering, I imagine you'll need [your solution category]. Let's discuss how we can support this growth..."

For Fundraising: Select "Monitor company fundraising" and map to company identifiers. Get notified of funding rounds—seed, Series A, B, C, etc.

Use case: Company raises Series B. Reach out within days: "Congrats on the Series B! I know this is a pivotal time for scaling operations. We work with many recently-funded companies to help them [solve specific problem]. Would love to explore if we can support your growth plans..."

Step 5: Set Up Notifications

Configure how you want to be notified when signals trigger:

- Slack alerts to your sales channel

- Push to your CRM with notes about the trigger event

- Add to outreach sequences in your email platform

Step 6: Create response workflows

The real power of Signals comes from having workflows ready. When a signal triggers, what happens next?

Automated Enrichment Workflow: When someone changes jobs → Automatically enrich their new company → Score the opportunity → If high score, alert sales rep

Personalized Outreach Workflow: When company raises funding → Use Coldout AI Agent to research the funding round details → Generate personalized message referencing the specific round and use case → Push to outreach tool

Multi-Channel Approach: When person gets promoted → Find mobile phone number → Add to SMS campaign → Also add to LinkedIn outreach sequence → Create task for sales rep to send video message

Wrapping up

Coldout Signals transform your outreach from spray-and-pray to perfectly timed, highly relevant conversations. Monitor job changes, promotions, hiring activity, company news, and fundraising automatically. Get notified the moment these events happen, then reach out with personalized messages that reference the specific trigger.

Set up monitoring on your key accounts, configure automated workflows for when signals trigger, and act fast when opportunities arise. This is how modern sales teams achieve relevance at scale—by being there at exactly the right moment with exactly the right message.
